Travel Style: Vietnam Veteran Tours from Saigon
Itinerary: Saigon – Tay Ninh – Bien Hoa – Saigon
Highlights: your dates from January through May or October through December. We don’t recommend travel during the wet season (June through September). This tour program is available for individuals, small groups or families. The cost depends on the number of travelers, whether you want a single room and wheather you Our tour is designed for Veterans, family, and friends and Cambodia, where the Viet Cong hid COSVN (Central Office for South Viet Nam), their main headquarters. East of the Saigon River, we venture to Phuoc Vinh and Xuan Loc. Between those these points we visit Saigon, Cu Chi and the fabled tunnels, Dau Tieng, the Michelin Rubber Plantation, Tay Ninh City, Nui Ba Den (“the Black Virgin Mountain”), An Loc, Lai Khe, Dong Xoai, Ben Cat, the Iron Triangle, Bien Hoa, Long Binh and numerous places along the route. Wherever possible, we will include “special places” that our Veterans request nearby our travel route. Our Vietnam tours are more than battlefield tours. We include visits to temples, colorful marketplaces and villages to give you a new appreciation and understanding of Vietnam’s culture and its people. Our tour participants have ample opportunities to shop for local crafts, clothing, unique souvenirs and other quality products. Our tours often include wives and adult children wishing to see where their Veteran served. A Vietnamese guide proficient in the English language
Day 1: Saigon.
Arrive at Tan Son Nhut Airport. We are met by our MilSpec Tours English speaking guide and escorted to your hotel in central Saigon. After check in, you have some time to freshen up before we go to the Rex Hotel for welcome cocktails, dinner and a a Folk Music and Dance Show. (D)
Day 2: Saigon.
After breakfast we board our vehicle and leave Saigon, passing the site of a pivotal battle between US and VC/NVA battalions on the edge of Tan Son Nhat airbase on the first day of the 1968 Tet Offensive. Continue north on Highway #1 over the Hoc Mon Bridge to Cu Chi,
where we see the Military Museum. Leaving Cu Chi, we drive along the perimeter of the 25th Division’s former main basecamp en route to the Ho Bo Woods. After lunch on the Saigon River, we visit the nearby “Cu Chi Tunnels” and the Cu Chi Military Cemetery before we return to Saigon. (B, L)
Day 3: Saigon / Tay Ninh.
Today you check out of the hotel in Saigon, board your vehicle and drive north. In Tay Ninh City, we visit the world famous Cao Dai Temple. Then we drive to the jungle in the far northwest corner of Tay Ninh Province where you visit the South Central Department Base of the VC (known as COSVN by US and allied forces during the war.) Then to Nui Ba Den, the “Black Virgin Mountain” to ride the gondola lift up to the temples built on the slopes overlooking Tay Ninh Province. Returning to Tay Ninh City, we check into your hotel. Day 4: Tay Ninh / Bien Hoa.
Leaving Tay Ninh, we follow a roadway along the dike that created Lake Dau Tieng all the way to the town of Dau Tieng in the Michelin Rubber Plantation. Some remnants of the former brigade size base camp are still visible as are reminders of the French plantation. We drive through the Michelin Plantation all the way to Highway 13, “Thunder Road.” We venture north to An Loc and then south to Lai Khe where we turn east through Dong Xoai to Phuoc Vinh. Later we double back and continue south on Highway 13 through Ben Cat
where the 11th ARC fought in the Iron Triangle in 1967. We visit Di An, once a major basecamp and now an industrial park, before checking into our Bien Hoa City hotel. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Bien Hoa / Saigon.
This morning we begin touring around Bien Hoa and Long Binh before driving Route 1A to Xuan Loc, a former Blackhorse base. Later we drive through Bear Cat to Vung Tau. After exploring sites in Vung Tau, we board a high-speed hydrofoil for a one-hour cruise to Saigon. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the Indochine restaurant. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Saigon.
Your itinerary will include the War Remnants Museum, the French Colonial Post Office, Notre
Dame Cathedral, Reunification Hall (Presidential Palace), as well as Cholon. We will have lunch followed by free time to shop on Nguyen Hue Boulevard. Tonight a Farewell Dinner Cruise on the Saigon River. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Saigon.
Midmorning transfer to Tan Son Nhat for your return (B)
